Frequently Asked Questions
Dr. Karen Delaney has a simple saying: “An informed patient is usually a healthy one, too!” In that spirit, you’ll find answers to some of the most common questions our team receives every day below. Whether you’re looking to learn a little more about Katahdin Family Dental or dentistry in general, this is a great place to start. Of course, if you have a question for us that hasn’t been answered here, be sure to give us a call!
How often should I see a dentist?
According to Dr. Delaney as well as the American Dental Association, the average healthy person should receive at least two professional dental checkups and cleanings every year, or one every six months. These appointments give our team the chance to catch and treat dental issues while they are still small, and they go a long way in preventing many problems from developing in the first place.
Do you accept emergency patients?
Yes! If you or a loved one are in a large amount of dental pain, just give Katahdin Family Dental a call, and we’ll work to see you right away. We’re often able to schedule same-day appointments for emergency patients. Whether you’re dealing with a broken tooth or major toothache, give us a call, and we’ll be ready to help!
What is the best way to get rid of coffee stains on my teeth?
The only way to get rid of deep, set-in dental stains like those caused by coffee or wine is with a dedicated teeth whitening treatment. Before you try to look for a solution at the store, know that most generic whitening treatments are extremely underpowered and hardly ever deliver noticeable results. In order to make your teeth 6, 7, or even 8 shades whiter, you’ll need to get a professional treatment. At Katahdin Family Dental, we offer both in-office and take-home teeth whitening services to help patients get a brighter smile in the most effective and convenient way possible.
Do I have to get braces to straighten my crooked teeth?
Not anymore! We can now fix crooked, crowded, and oddly spaced teeth using ClearCorrect, an orthodontic treatment that doesn’t involve metal brackets and wires. Instead, a series of custom-made, clear plastic aligner trays slowly shift the teeth in the most discreet and subtle way possible, helping a patient get what they need while also maintaining their daily appearance. It’s perfect for both adults and image-conscious teens!
I think I have a cavity…what should I do?
If you have a tooth that suddenly feels much more sensitive or has a noticeable dark spot on it, you should go ahead and call Katahdin Family Dental. You won’t be able to take care of a cavity on your own at home, and left untreated, it could cause enough damage that the tooth actually needs to be removed! Fortunately, we can usually fix a cavity in just one appointment using either a tooth-colored filling or specially-made dental crown with CEREC technology.
Will you accept my dental insurance?
In all likelihood, yes. Katahdin Family Dental is a very “insurance-friendly” practice, and we accept many plans from a long list of popular providers, which you can find on our New Patients page. Our team of insurance experts will work to maximize your benefits at every visit, and you can learn more about how we can use your plan by giving us a call today.
Is there a way I can finance my dental care?
Yes. If you would like to break up the cost of your care into smaller monthly payments, you can sign up for a plan with CareCredit right through our website. They have a number of plans suited for any budget, and you won’t have to worry about any hidden fees or surprise charges. To learn more, click on the link on our New Patients page.
